Save the Date! Fashion Scholars Prepare for Upcoming Fashion Show

Fashion scholars at 91桃色入口 Free Academy, Main Campus prepare for upcoming Fashion Show scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, 2018.

Ms. Karen Stafford, says that every scholar develops their own theme for their line. Students in Fashion 2 are required to create a minimum of two pieces, but can create up to four. Scholars in Fashion 3 are required to create a minimum of three pieces, but can create up to five. Right now, students are working on their first pieces. Scholars in Fashion 3 are also have responsibility for making sure the whole show comes together.

Students just completed a project with the theme: Women’s Empowerment. Of that project, one student explained, “We were supposed to take an occupation or a job that’s usually male oriented and design a uniform that is more feminine.”

Some students plan on studying fashion in college, bus others find it to be a good experience, a great skill to learn, and use it as a stress reliever.

“I will have three pieces, plus my Women in Power piece. I decided to make a line for kids. I teach Sunday school on Sundays and that’s really where I got my motivation to make clothes for kids that are a little different and unique for them. I also decided to do colors of Puerto Rico, so all of my outfits will have red, white, and blue in them.” Isabel Medina, grade 11

“I changed my pattern last minute, so now I’m improvising a little to alter the pattern to make it more flowy and more relaxed.” Manny Hernandez, 12th grade

Ms. Karen Stafford has been a Family and Consumer Science Teacher for 25 years and is a graduate of the class of 1989.  “I don’t necessarily have a fashion background, but over the years, you figure out that a pair of pants is a pair of pants. There are different variations, but they all go together the same way. These students are on a deadline right now because that’s the real world. Deadlines are a part of life, so it’s good to simulate that in the classroom where it’s a little safer. When the students see their first piece come together, that excitement and sense of accomplishment usually builds momentum for the rest of their pieces. I’ve been teaching fashion for twelve years and have been teaching in this district for 25 years. I wouldn’t want to teach anywhere else. Even after 25 years, the excitement is still there.”

Students in Fashion 3 are all seniors and include:

Brianna Masciola, 12th grade
Lily Tejeda 12th grade
Jillian Bunch 12th grade
Stephanie Miranda 12th grade
