Heritage Middle School Hosts 5th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast
Heritage Middle School proudly hosted its 5th annual Veterans Day Breakfast to honor our families and community who have served in any branch of our nation’s military. Heritage Middle School faculty and staff, supported by our Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team came together to provide a beautiful bounty of breakfast treats.
The event was opened by our NFA JROTC Color Guard's presentation of the flag under the direction of Msgt Carter, Emma Smith, NJHS Vice President led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
This year, the keynote speaker was Corporal Richie Lay, who delivered an inspirational message to commemorate the day. Heritage Middle School Honor Junior Society President, Isabella Blanco introduced the speaker.
Members of the Honor Society had guided one-on-one conversations with our honored veteran guests to learn more about what it means to serve. The students and veterans also colored special pages together as part of an art project led by Ms. McCarthy, which were brought together to form a large American flag. Ms. Clina conducted the chorus, who performed a moving patriotic song, “Of thee I sing, America.” NJHS Treasurer, Avery Claudio and NJHS Secretary, Vanessa Mejia read patriotic poems to thank our veterans.
At the conclusion of the event our honored guests passed through the procession of heroes. The halls were lined with hundreds of students waving flags and holding banners while applauding and cheering for our heroes.
Each year, the event is coordinated by Mrs. Tara Lapierre.
