Gardnertown Students Visited by Waffles, a Blue Puppet Dog
Some special visitors came to Mrs. Lewis' Pre-K classroom at Gardnertown Leadership Academy. One special visitor's name was Waffles, a blue puppet dog operated by Mr. David 'Dov' Manley, professional puppeteer and founder of the Up In Arms puppet company. Mr. Manley shared his puppets and props with us so we could see how he operates the puppets with his hands and his voice.
Along with Waffles, Mr. Manley shared some of his other puppet characters. He explained how he made some of them and how we can make puppets, too, using paper bags, wooden spoons, and socks. We also enjoyed a demonstration of his bug rod puppets and joined in their song with a heartwarming chorus, "I like the way I look, don't judge the cover til you've read the book, I like me and I like you and you should like you, too!" Mr. Manley explained how he travels with his puppets performing all over for children everywhere. We are certainly glad he made a stop to see us at Gardnertown!

Thank you, Mr. Manley!
