Balmville and Fostertown Scholars Visit Local College Campus
English as a New Language (ENL) teachers, Mrs. Valle, Mrs. Nelson & Mrs. Ortiz gathered together to attend their yearly trip to SUNY New Paltz. The educators are introducing our young Balmville and Fostertown scholars to colleges at a young age because there are several important benefits:
Exposing young scholars to colleges early helps them understand the opportunities available in higher education. This exposure can inspire students to set academic and career goals from an early age. Visiting colleges can serve as a source of motivation for young scholars. Seeing the campus environment, meeting students and faculty, and learning about academic programs can inspire them to strive for academic excellence and aspire to attend college themselves. The visit also adds familiarity with the college environment, which can reduce anxiety about the college application process when students reach high school. Familiarity with college campuses can also help students feel more comfortable and confident when they eventually apply to colleges. Understanding the requirements and expectations helps to identify their interests and passions, allowing them to make more informed decisions about their educational and career paths.
Overall, bringing our young scholars to see colleges at a young age can play a significant role in shaping their educational aspirations, increasing their readiness for college, and empowering them to pursue their academic and career goals with confidence. We are grateful to NECSD and SUNY New Paltz for allowing us the college visit opportunity.
