South Middle School | Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
September 7, 2023
Hello South Middle School families,
I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your patience and understanding as we establish our arrival and dismissal procedures at the start of this school year. I know that adapting to new routines can be challenging, but your flexibility and cooperation have been invaluable.
The start and end of the school day are often the most hectic times, and I appreciate you bearing with us as we work to make the transition smooth and efficient for all our students. Please know that your child's safety and wellbeing are our top priorities.
Here are the detailed directions for our arrival and dismissal procedures:
ARRIVAL
SCHOOL BUS: Students who take the morning bus will be dropped off in front of the main entrance of the school building. School safety monitors and administration will be present to greet them and direct them to their grade's designated entry door.
WALKERS: Students who walk to school will enter the building with the bus riders through the designated entry points. Staff will be present to welcome them.
PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION: For students being driven to school, we ask that you drive to Monument St and turn right onto William St to our drop-off location (the school should then be on your right). Please wait in line for your turn to reach the circle, and allow your child to exit the vehicle there. Staff will be present to greet students as they enter the building.
DISMISSAL
SCHOOL BUS: Students who take the bus home will exit the building on the Monument street side, where buses will be waiting.
WALKERS: Students who walk home will be dismissed first. They will exit on the Monument St side of the building
PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION: Students who are picked up by parents will gather at the intersection of South William St. and Overlook Place (behind the school, near the field). Please drive to this location by 2 pm. Staff will escort students outside for pickup.
Please note that final pick-ups for early dismissal will conclude at 1:45pm sharp so we can begin our regular procedures.
I know arrival and dismissal can be hectic, but please know we have your child's best interests at heart. If you ever have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of our administrators. We are happy to assist you however we can.
Thank you again for your understanding and cooperation. It is a pleasure to work with such a supportive parent community!
Sincerely,
Mr. Roderick Phoenix, Principal
South Middle School
