Self-Care Activity Highlight: Prioritizing the Mental Health of our Faculty/Staff
This school year our Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) team, consisting of School Social Workers, School Psychologists, and School Counselors, have created a peer led "Self-Care Calendar" to offer our staff opportunities for wellness activities each month. Our menu of options include hiking, painting, yoga, essential oil therapy, music therapy, journaling, and zoomba.
Our PPS staff are often responding to crises and supporting our students with the highest needs on a daily basis. Putting on our "Oxygen Mask" first before helping those around us allows us to be present and available to help those in need. During times such as these, it is more important than ever to prioritize their mental health so that our team can sustain the great work they do each day for our scholars and families.
This month's self-care activity was a mindfulness hike in Chadwick Lake Park, led by our Temple Hill School Social Worker, Carrie Frost. Together we explored each of our five senses one minute at a time, as a grounding technique to clear our minds and appreciate the present moment.
