Team Survival Science with Clarkson University Beacon Institute of Rivers and Estuaries
Students from all over NECSD participated in many unique experiences such as fire building, shelter making & learning how to identify plants as poisonous or edible. The program focused not only on how to survive in nature, but also ways by which scholars can connect with nature and oneself. Some sessions included yoga, awareness training, drawing in nature, making bird feeders, creating vision boards, and crafting friendship bracelets. In addition, students completed drone training and flying with Drone Cadets, cleaned up the beach, took a trip to Bannerman's island, siended for fish and invertebrates, and did lots of team building activities!
The three week Extended School Year Program (ESYP) was facilitated by the Clarkson Director of Environmental Programs, Asher Pacht and Assistant Director of Environmental Programming Bridgette Walsh, college interns Trevor, Evelyn, & Ethan as well as many guest presenters, CIT Clara, NECSD teachers Ms. DeFabio & Ms. Carbone and Nurse Mrs. Petrillo.
