NFA Evening Campus Receives Workforce Innovation and Opportunity - High School Equivalency Grant

NECSD has approved, in advance, the WIOA HSE (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity - High School Equivalency) grant for next year, 2021-2022, due to the work accomplished by the HSE team this year; 2020-2021.
Lynne Pampel, Director of Grants, applied for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity New York State grant during the 2019-2020 school year and worked alongside Sara Feliz, Executor Director of Human Resources, in creating an implementation plan to include Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language, and TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion - formerly known as the GED) to help students with their literacy and English skills in all subject areas: ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science.
The HSE team is made up of the following NECSD staff:  Sandra Wood - NFA Evening House Principal; Case Manager - Yolene Prescott; Data Manager - Samuel Rosario; ABE Teacher - Roberta Morrow; ESL Teacher -  Melinda Martinez; and TASC Teacher - Eric Buxton.  Teachers have been diligent in creating differentiated lessons asynchronously and synchronously in alignment with a Distance Learning plan created by Ms. Wood and approved by NYSED.  NYSED has access to all lesson plans and student work which consists of individualized differentiated learning packets and students meet with teachers at this time via google meets, zoom, and by coming into NFA for progress monitor testing after every 40 hours of instruction.  This helps teachers pinpoint strengths and weaknesses in order to address individual student needs.
We would like to thank Dutchess and Ulster County BOCES for allowing NECSD WIOA HSE students to participate in the TASC exam due to COVID19. We are eagerly anticipating student scores to come in shortly as one student to test stated to Yolene Prescott, Aliya Clarke, "The hardest part for me was the Social Studies section because I am new to the area and come from Jamaica."  Brianna DeSheers shared with Ms. Prescott that she was nervous about the math section, but after taking the test she felt she did okay.
Currently, the NECSD HSE program runs Monday - Friday from 4:30-8:30pm at NFA Main Campus.  Reach out to Ms. Wood at 845.563.5522 if you or someone you know are interested in getting your TASC (GED) or help with literacy skills.
