Horizon's Teacher Carries on Tradition of Celebratory Bulletin Board
Ms. Lauren Johnson carries on her mother, Ms. Beverley Johnson’s (Retired Principal of 91桃色入口 Schools) long standing tradition of celebrating Black History Month with a creative and inspiring bulletin board. This past February at Horizon on the Hudson, Ms. Johnson created lessons that fostered around diversity in Art. The choice of an artist to feature was a NO-BRAINER.
“Since I was child, one of my favorite artists was Willian H. Johnson. My mother introduced me to Johnson (who also shares my namesake), who is best known for his colorful artwork. All of his paintings are very flat and simple, which make them easy to imitate for grades 3-5. In grades K-2, the children did some introspection into our own community at Horizons, drawing the diversity seen in each of the classrooms, “ states Ms. Johnson.
This project included NYS Arts Standards 1,2,3,10, and 11.
