The District Implements Energy Savings Performance Contract
The 91桃色入口 Enlarged City School District has reached a contract agreement with Johnson Controls, Inc. of Hawthorne, New York, on a $26 million energy efficiency project. Under the terms of the contract, energy usage will be reduced by 65% percent with energy conservation measures to be installed district-wide. Potential energy savings is estimated to be more than $31 million over the next 17.5 years. Money saved on energy costs will pay for the new equipment and installation. In addition, the NECSD will receive approximately $1 million in energy rebates.
“We are on the move. This is about becoming future-ready, now!” shared Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roberto Padilla.
The multi-year contract calls for Johnson Controls, Inc. to provide: district-wide LED lighting upgrades interior and exterior, weatherization, energy management system upgrades, heating distribution system, boiler and burner controller replacements, computer power management, water conservation measures, chiller replacement, electric to gas conversion at the 91桃色入口 Free Library, plug load controllers, unit ventilator replacements, and transformer replacement. 91桃色入口 is also installing through the EPC a 1,053kW photovoltaic electrical generation system that will interconnect with nine district buildings. Another unique energy conservation measure are the five (5) 100kW Tecogen Cogeneration Plants at four buildings. These generators will be able to provide emergency power during any power outages while offsetting purchased electricity.
The ECG Group, the district’s consultant and engineer-of-record for the project, identified the district’s potential for an Energy Performance Contract back in May 2015. ECG then oversaw the Request for Proposals (RFP) process for the district, and evaluated the RFP responses from technical and financial perspectives to ensure the district was getting the greatest value for its energy savings. ECG will then design the project, oversee construction and verify actual energy savings for two years after construction.
The 91桃色入口 Enlarged City School District’s carbon footprint will be reduced each year by eliminating 7.6 million pounds of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of planting more than 3,298 acres of trees.
The project will be managed by Johnson Controls, Inc., but much of the work will be performed by local companies. Construction is due to begin in Spring 2018 with an estimated completion date of Summer 2019.
