Heritage Families: Important Information About Absences on Report Cards
November 14, 2019
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As you know, in Heritage’s schedule, each instructional period is recorded as three 15 minute blocks. Please note that on the report cards attendance (excused and unexcused absences) were documented by each 15 minute block. For example, if a student missed one class due to a doctor's appointment, it is one period, one absence. Yet on the report card it was recorded as 3 absences.
However, when an attendance report is run in the system for each student, the attendance is displayed accurately showing one absence, for one period missed. All absences and tardies, excused and unexcused, will be displayed on the report card for each quarter.
Please be assured that the reports that are utilized for sports eligibility purposes, intramurals and after-school activities will reflect the correct attendance totals, as well as whether an absence or tardy is excused or unexcused.
You can refer to attendance policies 5411 and 5100 at Board docs: for further details about the attendance and participation in student extracurricular activities and interscholastic sports.
Lastly, we encourage all families to sign up for Parent Portal. You can stop in the Heritage Main Office, show your ID and a secretary can assist you to sign up. The Parent Portal will allow you to check on your scholar’s attendance, grades and academic progress.
Sincerely,
Lynnette Brunger
