Support Services Team – Who We Are & How We Help
Mission Statement: To assist students and families who are experiencing social, emotional, psychological, and developmental difficulties which may affect their academic performance. The team also facilitates access to school and community resources and responds to crisis as needed.
Angela Boone, School Counselor, Ext. 86626: The goal of my program is to assist students in attaining the educational, occupational and social competencies necessary to function and contribute to their school/community/society. I deliver these services through guidance curriculum (classroom and group activities), individual and small group counseling, responsive services (consultation, crisis counseling, referrals, etc.), & system support (administration, parents, staff & various school/district committees). Initiates working papers for students (14 yr. olds) in conjunction with the health office.
Guy Delisfort, Ph.D. Psychologist, Ext. 86615: Practitioner in the areas of counseling, consultation, assessment, childhood development, intervention and prevention. Trained in the areas of clinical psychology, community psychology, neuropsychology, bilingual psychology, and forensic psychology. Provides individual/group counseling services for classified students whose IEP’s indicate the need. Also provides counseling services for non-classified students (with parents consent). Under direction of CSE, one of the main roles of the school psychologist is to administer a variety of psycho educational instruments and/or consult w/staff to aid students who are experiencing difficulties (academic or behavioral) in the classroom
Patrice Douglas, School Social Worker, Ext. TBD: Licensed NYS and Certified School Social Worker with experience in treatment planning, assessment, and providing clinical services. Specializes in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), crisis intervention, behavior management and parent skills training. I will provide mandated IEP counseling, school wide educational support for grades K-8, and assist parents/ faculty through consultation in efforts to address the social and emotional needs of our scholars.
Enid Samuels, School Psychologist, Ext. 86613: Bilingual Practitioner in the areas of counseling, consultation, assessment, childhood development, intervention and prevention. Amy Weigel, School Psychologist, Bullying Prevention (DASA) Coord, SEL team, Ext.86716: Bullying prevention (DASA) coordinator for K-5 at Meadow Hill and member of district's Social-Emotional Learning team. Certified School Psychologist experienced in treatment planning, assessment, and providing clinical services. Specialized in counseling, behavior and crisis management, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, and positive behavior management at home and school. Provides group and individual counseling (IEP and at-risk), psychological & behavioral assessments for the CSE, and faculty and parent consultation regarding academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
Iris Petrillo, School Nurse Teacher/Nurse Practitioner, Ext. 86635 & Michelle Verlezza, School Nurse Teacher, Ext. 86636 We identify children who come repeatedly to the health office with physical complaints that may actually be emotionally based or indicate an underlying learning disability. We refer these children (and their families, when indicated) to other members of the Support Services Team, or for outside help. The team members in turn refer students with medical or nursing needs to the health office. Our goal is to help children and their families reduce physical problems and emotional stress. In this way they will not miss school unnecessarily and students can really focus on learning.
Wendy Keenan, K-5 SAVE ROOM teacher Ext, 88618: A SAVE room (named after the acronym for the state school safety law - Safe Schools Against Violence in Education) is an area or room that houses students who have been removed from their classrooms or suspended from school, or, in the case of elementary schools, suspended from "buddy schools." The room must be staffed and instruction provided by a licensed pedagogue. Her goal is to stabilize children when they are in crisis and return them to class where they can resume their academic day in a cooperative manner.
